Build Java-style legacy formatting strings
Formatting code helperWhat can you make with this tool?
Prepare a Java text component alongside legacy formatting representations.
Try it with your own text
- Enter Hello World in the main text field.
- Compare none, black, dark blue.
- Use the Copy button beside your chosen result, then paste it into the field where you need it.
What should you check before copying?
Current Java command text components use SNBT. The quoted JSON-style object shown here is a compatible simple compound representation, but each destination still needs the syntax it expects. Section-sign codes and ampersand codes are separate formats.
Choose the format your destination accepts
Mojang changed command text components from JSON to SNBT in Java Edition 1.21.5. The simple quoted object generated here can be used as an SNBT compound in a compatible command field. Legacy § codes, escaped Java strings and plugin-style ampersands are different representations, so copying one does not make the others interchangeable.
Control the obfuscation preview
Enable Obfuscated §k and adjust Obfuscation preview speed to compare changing character patterns. The speed is a demonstration on this page, not a setting embedded in the copied formatting code. Use the formatting flags and component output for the actual destination, and verify its Minecraft edition and version.
